FOLFOX Round 3: A Little Rougher, Then a Really Good Day

Cancer & Healing, The Unraveling

Jan 7, 2026

//

This post is part of my Cancer & Healing journal, an archive of the updates I wrote while going through treatment for Stage III rectal cancer. These entries reflect what I knew and felt at the time.

A little short and sweet update, since I have used many words in a couple of other posts today. 😉

Round 3 of FOLFOX was… spicier.

A little rougher this time, plus I was lovingly gifted a cold by Steve because sharing is caring.

My GI system is still doing its weird thing. My appetite is questionable. The fatigue is very real. And recovery is definitely taking longer than it did with the earlier rounds.

But today, and I’m almost scared to say it out loud, has been one of my best days since October.

I’ll take the win. 💛

Looking Back

This one doesn’t need much explaining.

By Round 3, I was beginning to feel the cumulative nature of FOLFOX. Recovery wasn’t happening quite as quickly as it had after the earlier rounds.

But then I had a good day.

Not a good day considering I had cancer.

A genuinely good day.

When you’ve felt sick, exhausted or simply not quite like yourself for months, a normal day starts feeling extraordinary.

I think that’s why I was almost afraid to say it out loud.

I didn’t know how long it would last.

I didn’t need to.

It was a good day. I took the win.
